This past Friday Governor Branstad petitioned to keep wrestling in the Olympics with a new state-wide initiative.
But when it comes to the sport, it's a bipartisan effort to keep it going.
Democratic Representative Bruce Braley has written a letter to the International Olympic Committee, voicing his concerns.
Braley said wrestling is so much more than just a sport.
"This is a sport that has bridged cultures and opened up opportunities for American citizens to get involved in putting a positive face on our country around the world," said Braley.
Governor Branstad's new initiative is called ‘Let's Keep Wrestling."
