Davenport fire destroys one family's basement

A fire in Davenport destroyed one family's basement this morning.

It happened just before ten o'clock this morning at a home across from West High School on Locust street

Flames tore up the entire bottom floor of the home.

The homeowner was able to get himself and his pets out safely.

Crews were able to stop the blaze before it spread to the rest of the house

"We responded with our normal, general fire response. Three engines and two trucks and we were able to get in under control real quick and take care of business," says Neil Gainey, District Chief, Davenport.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
