East Moline Police have charged a man with shooting and killing his neighbor's dog.
Police say Michael Coulter killed the dog with a shotgun in the middle of a neighborhood.
The dog's owner said it had gotten loose Wednesday night from their home in the 2000 block of 6th Street Court. She told police that when she was looking for it she heard a gunshot.
Officers questioned Coulter, who told them the dog had come into his yard and gotten into a fight with his own dogs. Coulter then got his shotgun and shot it from about 140 feet away as the dog was walking near its home.
Police say Coulter then took the dog's body and dumped it in a creek near Aledo. The dog was recovered and returned to its owner for burial.
Coulter is charged with Aggravated Cruelty to Animals and Reckless Discharge of a Firearm.
