Scott Community College's new cross country team signs first runner.
Scott Community College is excited to announce the signing of the first runner to the college's new cross country team – Nathan Dodd.

Nathan Dodd is the son of Daniel and Kelly Dodd of Davenport.  Nathan has participated in cross country and track all four years at Davenport North High School.  In his senior cross country season, Nathan ran a 17:40 5k PR and placed 9th in the Davenport City meet and 28th in the MAC conference meet as North's top runner.  He faced some injuries last track season but is coming into his final track season at North healthy and ready to go.  Nathan is a strong competitor and hard worker.  Last fall as part of the boys cross country team at North he helped volunteer at a fundraiser at Harrison Elementary School for his teammate who suffered a medical condition that kept him from running with the team.

The SCC Cross Country head coach is Mary Toohill.  Coach Toohill most recently was the girls cross country and head girls track coach at Davenport North.  She will be giving up cross country at Davenport North to coach cross country at Scott Community College but she will  remain the head girls track coach at the high school.  She has a bachelor's degree  from Illinois State where she ran cross country and track all 4 years. She has run numerous marathons and races including twice representing Illinois in the Japan Ekiden Relay.  Her personal marathon record is 2:50.51.  Twice she was a Top 5 Master finisher for the Bix 7.  Additionally, she still holds all the cross country records at her high school, Leroy High School in Central, IL.

Joining Coach Toohill as Assistant Cross Country Coach is Morgan Meseke.  Coach Meseke has an associates from Scott Community College and she is completing her bachelor's degree currently at St. Ambrose University.  She graduated from Pleasant Valley high school in 2009 where she ran track and cross country.  Coach Meseke shared, " I love distance running and I has completed two marathons, including the Boston Marathon."

Together Coach Toohill and Coach Meseke have begun recruiting runners for the Fall 2013 season.  "My goal is to recruit a full scoring squad of seven men and seven women to run a full schedule of meets starting in August 2013", said Coach Toohill.
