Local woman files false tax returns

A local woman pleaded guilty to filing false tax returns.

60-year-old Regina Jimenez entered her pleas on Friday in U.S. District Court in Davenport. Authorities say Jimenez faces up to three years in federal prison.

Federal Prosecutors say Jimenez stole more than $200,000 from a client of her Clinton accounting business between 2007 and 2011.

She led the client to believe she was using the money to pay their taxes.

Prosecutors say Jimenez actually used the money for herself and didn't report the stolen funds on her tax returns.
