Drunk driving is the leading cause of traffic crashes and
deaths during holidays and special events, like the Super Bowl.
That's according to Illinois State Police, who are beefing
up patrol tonight.
And in Iowa, they're taking precautions too.
State and city patrols all over the Quad Cities are on extra
One Iowa State Trooper said drinking responsibly on game day
is key to keeping accidents down.
"If you drew the short straw, and you're the designated
driver, take it as a personal responsibility to get your people homes
safe. And that's all we're asking. We're not telling anybody not to enjoy the
Super Bowl or not celebrate, but just don't drink and drive and come out on the
highways," said Trooper Scott Drechsler of the Iowa State Patrol.
Police are on alert for all 'Fatal Four' traffic violations,
that's drunk driving, speeding, no seat belt, and texting while driving.
