It's the trip of a lifetime for one Iowa City mom; she's going to see her son play in the Super Bowl.
Ruth Byrd met with CBS4 and says she's ready watch her son suit up for the Baltimore Ravens in the big game.
Marshal Yanda is an Anamosa native, a former Iowa Hawkeye and a two-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman; and tomorrow night, his mom hopes to see her son become a Super Bowl champion.
"It's my son," Byrd exclaims. "I just can't wait!"
Since defeating the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship, Ruth says the entire family has been on a roller coaster ride.
"This season, it didn't seem like it was going to happen," she says. "When they won the game and they were going to the Super Bowl, [Yanda and teammates] were like ‘Can you believe it!'"
No matter what happens on Sunday, Ruth says she's proud of her son.
"It's a very emotional high," she adds. "It's kind of like planting your garden and your harvest is out there and you didn't just get a couple of cherry tomatoes; you got ten million cherry tomatoes! I think they are going to win the Super Bowl. I don't think people can stop this type of emotion, heart and they're hot."
Marshal Yanda will serve as one of the team captains for the Ravens in the big game.
Our Super Bowl coverage begins bright and early Sunday at 10 a.m. with "The Road to The Super Bowl."
