A large hog farm in Louisa County is devastated,
and a large number of hogs killed in a fire this afternoon.
Crews said the fire started just before 1 PM, burning down two
barns at a hog confinement facility just outside Columbus Junction.
Multiple agencies, helped fight the flames for several hours
in the bitter cold weather.
Crews said workers escaped the buildings just in time with no
injuries, but there was a large loss of livestock inside.
"This was a very large fire. It was a devastating fire for this business, they lost two major hog houses full of hogs," said Columbus Junction Fire Chief Lynn Mincer.
Burlington and Muscatine American Red Cross volunteers provided a warm meal for emergency crews after they put the fire out.

Multiple departments are fighting a fire at a hog confinement facility outside Columbus Junction.
The Louisa County Sheriff's Department confirmed that the fire broke out shortly before 1 PM Friday afternoon at the facility at 19335 County Road X17.
It is unknown at this time if there are animals inside the building on fire.
