Ethanol producers are converting trash to fuel.

They're using plant residue, wood scraps and even garbage to create the fuel additive.
About 70 projects are underway right now, reflecting billions of dollars in private investment.
The breakthrough comes at a key time, after the drought heightened criticism about the vast amount of corn used to brew ethanol.
