An area school is doing its part to help those in need.

In honor of Catholic Schools Week, students from Jordan Catholic, collected food and gave it to the St. Vincent Depaul Pantry in Rock Island.

But that wasn't all. The students also got a visit from Mayor Dennis Pauley.

He presented a proclamation honoring not only Catholic Schools Week, but the students' efforts.

"The Catholic schools do great things with educating our students here as do all of our schools in Rock Island," said Dennis Pauley, Mayor of Rock Island. "It's great to be able to honor them and give out their proclamation."

Students also dressed in different colors to represent the major facets of the Catholic faith.
