The Davenport School District needs to make some big budget cuts.
The school district needs to cut $3.2 million from their budget this year. One idea they're considering is outsourcing several specialized jobs.
The school district would save money by getting rid of experienced employees and hiring an outside business to provide those services cheaper.
Custodians, nurses, marketing staff and tech support are some of the jobs on the chopping block.
This issue was a hot topic at last weeks' public forum at North High School. Parents and teachers are concerned over the security of bringing outsiders into their schools.
"Remember, experience and trust is very important in these uncertain times. I ask you, who do you want in your school, with your children every day," said a Davenport school teacher.
Parents and teachers also say they don't want to lose longtime trusted employees.
"They are here for you just as much as I am, or the principal and it really concerns me that we think that these very valued employees are expendable," said Eisenhower Elementary teacher Diane Stensrude.
