Local veterans will soon have an affordable place to live, thanks to a community wide effort.
Today, Modern Woodmen Bank donated ten thousand dollars to the Rock Island Economic Growth Corporation.
The corporation is responsible for revitalizing the down.
The money will go towards new housing for veterans with special physical needs, at an affordable cost.
"It's just critical. We do not do enough for veterans in our opinion and we are trying to do everything we can here at Modern Woodmen, to make sure that veterans have what they need," says Steve Ollenburg, President/CEO, Modern Woodmen Bank.
The new apartment building will go up on Second Avenue.
Construction starts this spring.
