The Carroll County Sheriff's Department is launching a new program aimed at keeping people safe in emergency situations.
It's called the lock box program. Here's how it works. Participants will keep a locked box outside their home, away from public view, with an extra house key inside. Emergency responders would have access to the code, so in case of an emergency, they can get inside your home quickly, without breaking down the door.
Officials said the voluntary program could save lives.
Participants must purchase the lock box, but there is no fee to register your information with the sheriff's department.
For more information on how to register call the Carroll County Sheriff's Department at (815) 244-2635 or Sgt. Randy Craft of the Lanark Police Department at (815) 493-6931.
