For many, staying inside on a chilly day like this isn't an option.
Some folks have to brave the elements... their jobs depend on it.
The biggest thing to remember in weather like this, is be sure to bundle up.
"You stay dry, that's the key. You stay dry. You stay warmer," said Mike Leon of the Davenport Public Works Department
And these guys would know, they spent all day in the cold and water fixing a sewer collapse in downtown Davenport.
"We try to get the job done quick," said Leon.
Normally, the crew takes two breaks per shift.
Today, they took one every fifteen minutes.
"We do this every day whether it's warm or cold," said Steve Caudill of the Davenport Public Works Department.
And they're not the only Quad Citians who work regardless of weather.
One Moline letter carrier outside all day, has also found ways to deal.
"I just wear like, long underwear," said Chad Davis, with the U.S. Postal Service.
He said he doesn't have to take too many breaks though, due to the nature of the job.
"Well, we're constantly moving so, we stay warm that way," said Davis.
And even if you work inside, the bitter temps outside can still be a pain.
Try selling ice cream on the coldest day of the year like Luther Hughes at a Whitey's in Moline.
"It's really boring!" said Hughes.
