MidAmerican Energy has settled a lawsuit with the Sierra Club which will change the way some Iowa plants operate.
The Sierra Club informed the company in July of 2012 that it would allege violations of the Clean Air Act at MidAmerican plants, including the Riverside Generating Station in Bettendorf.
As a result of the settlement, Riverside will no longer burn coal, and instead generate energy through burning natural gas.
The company will also fund an environmental project, possibly a new solar project at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
