Carbon Cliff and Barstow combine fire departments

Two Illinois cities fire departments just got twice as good.

Sunday was the official swearing in and consolidation of the Carbon Cliff-Barstow Fire Protection District.

Carbon Cliff voted in November to be annexed into Barstow's district.

Mat Schnepple is the chief that will run the new consolidated district and he says it means great things for both communities like better communication and more engines.

All the former firefighters were re-sworn into the new district together.
