A Davenport Police officer narrowly escaped injury while attempting to stop a drunk driver Sunday night.
Police were called to a home in the 600 block of Douglas Court around 11 P.M. for a report of a car driving through a yard.
Police say the officer ordered the driver to put the car in park, but instead he put it in gear and drove right at the officer. The officer had to jump out of the car's path to avoid being struck.
The driver, Arnoldo Herrera of Davenport, later was tested and had a blood alcohol level of .192.
Herrera is charged with Assault on a Police Officer while Displaying a Weapon, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Driving without Insurance, disobeying a traffic control device, and Operating While Intoxicated.
