Throw, don't go. That's the word from the US Coast Guard.
Saturday the Flotilla 97 was in Rock Island teaching folks how to make their own throw bags.
It's simply an old juice carton with a string and sponge crafted together to throw out to distressed swimmers and pull them back in.
Commander Robin Priestly says there are they are so cheap and easy to make, everyone should have one in their car or boat at all times.
Priestly also says 100 percent of drowning's can be avoided within 40 feet of shore if there's a throw bag.
