A big business could be making its way to Moline.
Moline city leaders say they're in preliminary discussions to have Sam's Club move in next to Menards on John Deere Road.
The discount retailer would go in the new Valley View Village shopping center just off of 60th street.
The Plan Commission meets today to go over the plans Sam's Club representatives have submitted. After today's discussion, the commission will let the retailer know whether building is possible or not.
Right now, people must travel across the river to Davenport to find the nearest Sam's Club.
City leaders say if Sam's Club ends up moving in, many other businesses could soon follow suit.
"It adds another anchor to the Valley View development," says Shawn Christ, Moline Land Development Manager. "The more anchors we get there, we think that'll result in more activity. There are four or five other out-lots in Valley View Village that need to get developed."
Christ adds that bringing in a Sam's Club is all part of their continuous major development of John Deere Road.
"We've had a lot of development that's occurred along there," Christ adds. "Car dealerships, assisted living facilities, and a number of other stores - we're excited."
While there's still plenty of steps to go before Sam's Club moves in, city leaders are optimistic and say if everything goes smoothly, the discount retailer could start construction as early as this spring.
