Smoke detectors saved a record high number of lives in Iowa last year.

Alarms alerted more than two hundred people to fires in their homes, so they were able to get out safely.

Most were sleeping when the smoke was detected.

Firefighters say smoke detectors are an extremely important investment because they can save your family and your property

"We don't like responding to fires, especially fires with people inside. We'd like to avoid that most of our job is prevention and that's an awesome way to prevent a lot of damage that occurs from fires and life loss," says Lt. Nick Carlson, Clinton Fire Department.

The Clinton fire department will come to your home and check your smoke detectors for free. Just give them a call and to schedule an appointment.
