The president of the Galesburg Orpheum Theater is facing charges after a 16-year-old boy says he pressured him into performing sex acts.
25-year-old Joshua Damewood faces two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse after he allegedly forced a teenager into sex acts on the theater's stage.
Damewood surrendered himself Saturday, saying to police the acts were consensual and he thought the boy was over 18. The victim told police the incident happened in late October, but he was too afraid to come forward.
Police say they see situations like this too often.
"They're not going to be ostracized for being a victim," said Cpt. Rod Riggs of the Galesburg Police Department. "They need to come forward, tell people what happened, tell a parents, or someone that will help them come to police."
Damewood is due in court on January 28th.
