Underagers get a RI District curfew

It's the last weekend Rock Island bar owners will have to worry about underagers loitering in the district. A new law kicks in on Monday.

It's in the Great River Plaza area where police say underage kids hang out at night, and bar owners say it's causing a lot of problems.

Dwane Green owns MD Greens and he says many times the younger kids will pick fights with bar goers. But not for long.

The new law says it's illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to be hanging out in the district past midnight.

If they are caught disobeying the ordinance, they could face anywhere between a $75 and $500 fine.

"It's going to help curtail a lot of the problems we're having right now. And a lot of the tickets that the cops have been writing are for kids that are under 21."

Owners tell us the loitering law will hopefully keep underagers from trying to get into the bars as well.
