Folks in Rock Island are recovering from a series of water main breaks. Five different water towers were drained yesterday leaving folks with low water pressure and flooded yards.
Today, there are only 2 leaks that are still being repaired, but the public works director, Bob Hawes, says that's normal for this time of year.
Now they are testing to make sure no bacteria got in the water.
"There is a chance when the system is shut down, you can get contamination into the water mains and so once its repaired they're disinfected, but still you do a boil order," says Robert Hawes, Public Works Director/Assistant City Manager.
The boil order takes 24 hours to test and make sure the water is okay. Once it is the city of rock island will alert families it is safe to drink.
