Young illegal immigrants who are now eligible to work in the U.S. are still not be able to get a driver's license in Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Transportation said state law does not allow them to issue driver's licenses or ID cards to those who are not in the country legally.  This, after a new federal law was passed, allowing illegal immigrants to apply for work permits if they were brought in to the U.S. as kids.  The ACLU and Iowa's League of United Latin Americans have already started plans to fight the decision.

"Somehow people think that these young people have done something consciously wrong and that's not true.  They have not done anything wrong.  They're just trying to make a life for themselves in the country that they know about.  That they grew up in," said Joe Henry, Iowa LULAC Director.

The governor's spokesperson said Terry Branstad will strongly consider any bill to change this part of the Iowa code - if the legislature decides to make changes.
