Cold temperatures are putting a strain on water lines in the QCA. Multiple water main breaks are causing problems for some rock islanders.

The Rock Island Public Works director says multiple water main breaks drained five different water towers in the area of 36th street and 16th avenue.

Crews worked all morning to fix the broken lines.

The public works director says most water breaks happen during the cold winter months.

"I think it has to do with the change in water temperature and also frost penetration in the ground puts stress on the pipes," says Robert Hawes, Rock Island Public Works Director.

The water pressure should be back to normal, but folks in the area will be under a boil order for the next 24 hours. The city of Rock Island will let you know when your water is safe to drink again.
