A horrifying start to Christmas morning. A Davenport man is busted, accused of setting his own house on fire after a domestic dispute. It's a story seen first on CBS 4.
It happened just before 3:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. Crews were called to the 7200 block of Kelling Street, where they arrested 26-year-old Ryan Eckstein. He's charged with second degree arson and domestic abuse-simple assault.
According to the affidavit, Eckstein and his girlfriend got into a fight over a text message in which Eckstein apparently threatened to hurt her.
After the argument, documents allege Eckstein then set the house on fire. Police tell us Eckstein's girlfriend as well as two children lived at the home, but were not injured in this morning's fire.
The families' pets however were killed in the fire. The Red Cross is assisting the family with clothes and shelter. Court documents said the home is completely destroyed.
