Thursday's storm is having lasting effects for drivers near Monmouth, Illinois.
Highway 34 west of Monmouth is snowed over, stranding a number of drivers, some since last night.
Blowing snow and ice have made it impossible to get to the stuck drivers, forcing them to stay with their cars all night.
Police say the roads in rural areas have yet to be cleared, and should be avoided if possible.
