Two Illinois lawmakers say they're within striking distance of getting gay marriage approved in the state.

They're hoping to send a bill to Governor Quinn shortly after the New Year.

The lawmakers say public opinion and the fact that four states voted in favor of gay marriage, are helping their cause.

Lawmakers also say the bill wouldn't interfere with religious beliefs, or force places of worship to recognize same sex marriages.
