The mad dash to send holiday cheer through the mail is on.
Folks lined up all day on Monday trying to send holiday packages just in the nick of time for Christmas.
"It would be thousands and thousands that have come through just through the counter today." Deb Droz said.
Donna McCrady's son is in Japan serving in the military.
And she hopes he gets her gift even though she didn't make the deadline for sending priority mail to the military on Monday.
"I think a lot of people are last minute like me but hopefully it'll get there before Christmas," McCrady said.
But, don't worry, time hasn't run out if you're mailing holiday cheer across the U.S.
Rock Island Postmaster Deb Droz said it seems simple, but many folks forget to check if the address they have is right.
"We got a lot of call this week of you know I sorted this package but they sent it to the wrong address or my old address. We do get those things out to them but it's much easier if we them addressed properly," R. I. Postmaster Deb Droz said.
Another thing people shouldn't do is decorate their packages.
"Do not use any twine or string on packages. It does not need to be wrapped up in brown paper just a plane box," Droz said.
And always double check that you have a return address so if something does go wrong you can't be accused of being a scrooge.
The deadline for priority mail is next week.
But, if you're waiting until the very last minute you might not be out of luck. It may just cost you some extra cash.
