An Abingdon city worker could lose his job.

Last week, Thomas E. Marshall of Abingdon, Illinois pled guilty on child pornography charges.

This after federal authorities seized his home computer, two hard drives, and two envelopes all containing images of child porn.

Marshall worked with the Abingdon Public Works department for more than 20 years.

Residents and city leaders will discuss Marshall's job status as a city employee at a public meeting.

"It's a pretty serious thing," says Roger Stegall, Mayor of Abingdon. "I really don't know how to explain it. It's a shock to everybody."

The investigation into Marshall started in 2010 and neighbors and co–workers say they can't believe a public works employee could've been under investigation for two years for something like this.

That Personnel Committee discussion takes place Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.

"We really don't know what we're going to do," Stegall adds. "But I think we as the city are prepared whichever way it goes."

City leaders say the meeting is open to the public but they do have the option to make it a closed session if things get out of hand.

After this discussion, the committee's recommendation will go in front of city council in a couple of weeks where they will vote.
