A retail giant is ready to set up camp in Rock Island, but some store owners getting kicked out to make way for Wal-Mart, say they've been left in the dark.
There are currently 7 businesses in the Watchtower Plaza on 11th Street. Store owners say none of them have heard a word from their landlord that the place is being sold, let alone demolished.
We spoke with the landlord, Kevin Wittenauer on the phone,he says the reason he hasn't told the tenants about having to move out is because the sale of the property to Rock Island isn't final yet.
Monday night the city council took the first step in the process. They voted in favor of letting the land be sold to developer Price Properties for $4.5 million, to build the super Wal-Mart.
Rock Island Mayor Dennis Pauley, says they will do everything they can to help each business relocate to another place in the city
