The CBS affiliate in Cedar Rapids is reporting, that one man is dead Tuesday morning after a routine traffic stop by a Cedar Rapids Police Officer went wrong. Police say the as yet unidentified officer was making a traffic stop just before 2:30 Tuesday morning in the area of F Avenue and 19th Street NW. The vehicle didn't stop and the officer began chasing the car. When the car finally stopped in the 200 block of 27th Street NW, the officer approached the vehicle and the driver they displayed a handgun. The officer shot and the driver was struck. The driver was taken to St. Luke's Hospital where he or she died about 45-minutes later. The Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is taking the lead in the investigation, which is normal procedure when an officer is involved in a shooting.
