It's been nearly three months since the Preston and East Central School districts voted to merge and become Easton Valley.
Today, residents will vote for the new school board.
The newly formed school board will make all of the major decisions for the new district.
Once the school board is in place, members will find an interim superintendent and a business manager to oversee the transition.
Residents and school staff are both anxiously waiting to see how this all shakes out with a new school board.
"Staffing issue will be a major concern for existing staff and where they fit in the new district," says Neil Gray, superintendent for East Central Schools. "If they need to hire new staff, what facilities, what attendance centers - that's yet to be determined."
One Preston school board member is optimistic that all these changes won't have a huge effect on students.
"It's hard to say," says Sally Marvin, a Preston school board member. Marvin is also running for Easton Valley school board. "The administration and the board will be looking at what facilities we have available and where to place students. We want to keep both facilities full if we can. I don't know if the children will notice too much difference."
At the end of the day, locals and candidates hope whoever elected to this school board can help this community come back together.
"To try to show the people in our new district that we will have a good viable school district that they'll all be proud of," says Richard Keener, a school board candidate. "If we can do that, it'll heal a lot of wounds."
All of the decisions will need to be made by august when school starts for the brand new district.
For residents, you can vote at Miles or Sabula City Hall as well as Preston Community Hall.
