A group that provides vital services to needy QC kids, is looking to cash in on some goodwill this holiday season.
The Early Childhood Coalition is asking for donations to buy a new $8,000 digital eye exam machine. The one it has now is old and out of date.
The ECC offers free monthly screenings for kids under five throughout Rock Island County. ECC leaders say the machine is key to help catch vision problems as early as possible.
"When a child is screened early," says Cheri Hayes, a East Moline School District nurse who helps with the ECC. We can figure out the factors that can cause lack of vision. And earlier treatment usually is better. It can help prevent blindness."
Since the program started monthly screenings in 2002, more than 2,200 kids have been screened.
