Rock Island house fire

Fire broke out in a Rock Island home around 10 Monday morning. Fire officials said a resident of a duplex in the 1200 block of 11th street was woken up by a smoke detector going off in the apartment upstairs.

The resident tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher but the smoke was too thick. Firefighters arrived and quickly put out the blaze.

No one was in the upstairs apartment at the time.
