Fire rips through a Moline home, leaving a lot of damage behind.

Crews say the flames broke out on the second floor of the house in the 500 block of 24th Avenue early this morning. A passerby called 911.

Firefighters had the flames under control in about 15 minutes. They say now though is the time of the year when people need to be extra careful around the home.

"Everyone has probably used their furnaces by now but having a furnace inspection is important," said Mick Dochterman, Fire Inspector for Moline Fire Department. "If you have a fireplace, you should have it inspected and your chimney inspected every year."

No one was inside the home at the time. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
