A heads up for small businesses. Alliant Energy says crooks are pretending to be representatives with the utility to scam business owners.
The scammers are calling customers saying they're past due on their energy bill, and then are asking for credit card or bank info to bring the account up to date.
Do not fall for this. Alliant says it will never ask for personal info like that over the phone.
If you get a call like this, Alliant says to hang up and call police.
