Illinois Considering Financial Disclosure Reform

To help restore faith in Illinois government, legislators are proposing an overhaul of the state's financial disclosure laws.

The bill introduced today proposes an update to the current forms that critics say are meaningless because the narrow questions allow most people to dodge them.

Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon says if the proposed forms were previously in place, former Dixon comptroller Rita Crundwell, who stole $53 million from the city, may have been caught sooner, since she would have had to disclose her assets.
