It's CSI come to life in the QC. The high tech equipment you see on the hit CBS TV show is being used by investigators in Davenport. It's the Faro Focus 3D and it's saving time and money for the city.
The $71,000 gadget scans in every aspect of a crime scene in 3D, allowing Davenport officers to collect all the evidence and keep it forever.
Then they can refer to it at any time and figure out crash analysis and bullet trajectory.
The Faro Focus 3D also cuts down on the amount of time officers spend on a scene which saves overtime costs. At tourneys say the scanner, which they started using this summer, is helpful in court, allowing jurors to see exactly what the crime scene looked like at the time.
"It's going to help depict what occurred at a crime scene to a jury to bring it to them more accurately and more vividly to show all the points of evidence. It will help tremendously in that regard."
Davenport police are sharing the new technology. They bring out the scanner when Bettendorf, Scott County and Muscatine need it.
A grant from the Scott County Regional Authority paid for most of the scanner.
