A Rock Island family is homeless after a fire rips through their home.
When crews got to the scene in the 1300 block of 25th Street around 8:45 AM Tuesday, the home was filled with smoke.
No one was inside at the time. The home sustained major damage inside.
"It's going to take major amount of renovation to rehab it," said Chief Paul Hoffeditz of the Rock Island Fire Department. "The entire back part of the house is going to take a lot of construction."
Things got a little complicated when crews tried to enter the home and were greeted by an unfriendly dog. "(It's) that initial phase when you show up in a big hurry and you want to get in and you see a pitbull," Hoffeditz said. "I've never had any problems but some guys prefer to be safe than sorry."
Crews were able to get the dog away from the house so they could fight the flames.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but they believe the dryer started the flames. The Red Cross is helping the family.
