An Iowa soldier has died in Afghanistan. Sergeant Joseph Richardson, of Algona, Iowa, was killed November 16 during a patrol in Paktika province.
Richardson and a second soldier were killed when their unit was attacked with an Improvised Explosive Device and enemy small arms fire.
Richardson had also served in Iraq. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Funeral arrangements are still pending.
