The long holiday weekend is putting a strain on hospital's blood supplies. An area blood bank is offering an incentive to donate.

The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center is holding a blood drive at the Putnam Museum in Davenport.

Every donor gets a free movie ticket.

Blood Center workers say they're in need of all blood types, but platelets are especially critical because they only last five days.

"We had a donor here this morning who came in, her grandmother just received three units of blood this weekend and she wanted to give back and that's what its all about, making sure everyone gets the blood they need," says Sharee Hoegerl, a recruiter from the blood center.

If you weren't able to give blood today, don't worry. The drive goes tomorrow at the Putnam from ten thirty to twelve thirty.
