Before you pig out or plop on the couch to watch some football, thousands will make their way to downtown davenport for the 26th annual Turkey Trot.
The five mile and one mile run has raised more than half a million dollars over the years.
There's something new to this year's run, if your children don't want to run or are a little too young, you can drop them off at the kids fun zone where there's free child care starting at 8am.
Event organizers say it's incredible seeing how many families have made this part of their thanksgiving tradition.
"People are here for the thanksgiving holiday and they come together and it's become part of their holiday tradition," says Frank Klipsch, CEO of the Scott County Family YMCA. "So they start the day doing the turkey trot doing the one mile or the one mile walk or the five mile run."
This year's run has some special meaning for organizers; the Scott County Family YMCA's CEO Frank Klipsch will step down at the end of this year and this year's race is being held in his honor. He's been helping with this event every year since its inception.
All the money raised goes toward scholarships for kids as well as tutoring and mentoring programs.
If you haven't registered yet, it's not too late.
You can register in person at the Davenport Family YMCA until 8 a.m. The one mile run starts at 8:30 a.m. and the 5 mile at 9 a.m.
"You don't have to be a runner to do this event," says Allison Mizer, Scott County YMCA Healthy Living Director. "If you are, it's a great way to get a training run in. Bring your walkers, bring your strollers whatever you need to do to participate."
