Across the US, millions will hit the road today for Thanksgiving travel.
AAA projects more than 40 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles this Thanksgiving week. That's up nearly 1% from last year.
Out of the 40 million travelers, about 90% of them are driving. AAA says more people are driving instead of flying or by train as a way to save money.
With more traffic, drivers we spoke with say it can be tough dealing with everything on the road. "There seems to be a lot of traffic," says Patrick Brazil. "A lot of truck traffic particularly."
"You got to be careful I guess," says Daniel Soukup. "Stay alert, take whatever it takes, a cup of coffee or caffeine or something to keep you alert."
CBS4 had a chance to talk with several rest stop workers who say it's been pretty normal for them so far this week but they're expecting a lot more people to come through.
Drivers we spoke with say no matter the traffic, it's all worth it in the end to spend time with their family.
"It isn't that we don't see them often, but it's still neat that we can spend time with family," Soukup adds.
"Grabbing that little granddaughter is going to be a lot of fun," says Chris Parr. "We haven't seen her in six months."
Nearly half of everyone traveling for Thanksgiving will be on the road today; so drivers should be careful and take a little extra time to make sure you have a safe trip.
