Fire ripped through a Monmouth building Sunday causing nearly a million dollars in damage. But the total loss of Danny's Tap isn't just monetary, it's a huge loss for the community.
It was just after 7 a.m. when the call came in, and owner Lonnie Simpson's first concern was to make sure no one was inside. No one was hurt but it took nearly 40 fire fighters and a couple hours to tackle the flames.
Unfortunately it looks like the locals will have to find a new watering hole for the first time in 40 years. Simpson says it's a community favorite.
"The bars been in business since 1968 that's one of the reasons why I bought it because it's been in business for so long it's kinda like a community bar like a cheers type thing"
Firefighters say even if everybody didn't know your name at Danny's Tap, the loss will hit Monmouth hard.
Simpson says he has insurance and once the numbers come in he'll see if rebuilding is an option. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
