One Rock Island High School student's dream of collecting shoes for charity came true today.
A few weeks ago, Macia Hudson–Guy kicked off her first shoe drive at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center in Rock Island.
And Saturday was the day for folks who need shoes, to come and get them.
People had been dropping off new and lightly worn shoes to the center for the past few weeks, and Macia said she's surprised at the turnout.
"I think maybe we would get half of what we have right now, but, this is a really great turnout," said Macia.
Macia said any shoes that aren't picked up by folks who need them will be donated to local shelters.
