The sights and sounds of the holiday season are about to takeover downtown Davenport for the annual Festival of Trees parade. Before you get into the spirit there's some major road closures you need to look out for.
Saturday morning much of Downtown Davenport will be blocked off. So to save yourself time and money, police say if you're parked next to one of these signs you should move your car tonight or prepared to be towed.
"It's supposed to be a great day, beautiful weather lots of kids, lots of parents so we ask people to take their time and drive slowly" Lt. Shawn Voigts from Davenport PD said.
The festival of trees parade kicks off at 11 Saturday morning and to prepare for the big crowds and even bigger floats police are clearing the streets. 3rd street from Pershing to Le Clare and Iowa street from 2nd to 4th are already closed Saturday morning at 10:30, 2nd and 3rd street will close from Scott to Pershing. Police will start towing at 9 a.m. so they're asking you to park north of the parade route or on the ramps. Officers said the downtown area will be packed so they're asking folks to be patient.
"Take your time when you're getting here give yourself some time to get here, give yourself extra time to get out and you'll be fine" Lt. Voigts said.
Police said depending on parade traffic they hope to have all the parking spots open by 3 Saturday afternoon.
