Skipper Development Company has been operating the Clinton Marina for five years, but Clinton officials voted to end that contract because they have new ideas for the area.
"Maintenance issues, monetary issues, cleanliness, all of those issues can be addressed to some fashion. I think there will be some improved savings for the city and perhaps more income when it's all said and done," says Council member John Rowland, Clinton.
While the city doesn't have anyone in mind just yet, leaders know they want the new operator to manage the RV campground across the street as well.
There's also a small boat harbor that isn't being used. Council members say they've heard from hundreds of boaters who are waiting to take advantage of it.
"We think it will be a better product when it's packaged together. It will draw in more people, it will draw in a greater interest, it will certainly give the operator more marketing tools to work with when he has both," says Rowland.
Folks we talked to are all for a package deal; one operator to handle the Marina, the RV Park, and the harbor.
"I can't see that it would hurt it's always good when you have outsiders coming in and spending money for whatever reason," says James Shook, a Clinton Resident.
The new contract will be discussed in the next few weeks.
