Sterling police are stepping up patrols for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Starting Monday and running through November 25th, extra officers will be hitting the streets looking for drunk drivers and seat belt violators.
The added enforcement will be paid for as part of a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Statewide, 8 people were killed and more than 800 were injured in crashes during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in 2011.
