Former Davenport Alderman Keith Meyer was arrested Sunday and charged with Assault while Using or Displaying a Weapon.
According to police reports, Meyer was building a speed bump on a driveway he shares with a neighbor when the incident happened. The neighbor told police when he pulled into the driveway Meyer began cursing and threatening him.
The neighbor got a camera from his home intending to take pictures of the speed bump. He said that was when he saw Meyer walking towards him with a shotgun. Meyer allegedly said "I got my shotgun and I'm going to use it."
The victim was able to take a picture of Meyer with the gun before he retreated to his house and called police. He told police that Meyer has made threats towards him in the past that recently have alluded to Meyer using a gun.
Meyer told police that he was afraid of the victim and had armed himself for protection. He was booked into the Scott County Jail and later released on bail.
